GROUP ISSUES 50 REFORMS FOR NEW GOVERNOR'S FIRST 100 DAYS
50 WAYS TO LEAVE DYSFUNCTION, SAYS NYPIRG
The New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) today issued in a 112-page report Actions for Change: 50 Measures the New Governor Can Take in the First 100 Days to Reform New York.
NYPIRG urged the candidates for governor to adopt its proposals and pledge immediate action once sworn in January 2007. (See attached list of the fifty measures.)
"Whoever is elected governor in November will need to hit the ground running if they really want to achieve their promises to reform New York's government," said Blair Horner, NYPIRG's Legislative Director. "That's why we are recommending 50 critical reforms that can be taken in the first few months of the administration, proposals that can jolt Albany out of its lethargy."
Horner added, Our reforms provide 50 ways to leave dysfunction.
The report is divided into three sections:
the first offers proposals to open up state government;
the second offers reforms to enhance governmental accountability; and
the third includes health, environmental, consumer, higher education transit reforms.
Each of the sections is endorsed by other organizations with an interest in each of the reforms. To download the complete report in pdf form click here.
