Any reactions to fact the Q21 is now extended to Queens Center Mall? Here press statement.

Q21 AND Q11 CUSTOMERS
EFFECTIVE SUNDAY, AUGUST 31, 2008

The northern terminus of the Q21 will be extended to Elmhurst (Woodhaven Blvd RVG subway station) to provide direct local bus service between Rockaway Park, Lindenwood, and the entire Cross Bay Boulevard/ Woodhaven Boulevard corridor.

The extended Q21 will be merged with the Q11, using the same travel path, and stopping at all of the same local bus stops as the Q11 between Pitkin Avenue in Ozone Park, and Elmhurst. Current Q11 customers may use either the Q11 or Q21 between Ozone Park and Elmhurst. New combined Q11/Q21 public timetables will be issued (dated Fall 2008) to replace the currently separate timetables.

Most current Q21 bus stops will remain unchanged, with the following exceptions: (1) The current southbound bus stop on Cross Bay Boulevard at Liberty Avenue will be relocated to the north side of Liberty Avenue at the current Q11, Q53 and QM15 bus stop. (2) The recently established last and first stops in Ozone Park at Liberty Avenue and Rockaway Boulevard will be discontinued to allow the Q21 to remain on Cross Bay Boulevard, use the bus stops on Cross Bay Boulevard at Liberty Avenue instead.

Q21 service operates every 30 minutes. Toward Elmhurst the Q21 will operate from 5:30 AM to 8:30 PM on weekdays, and 6 AM to 8:30 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. Toward Rockaway Park the Q21 will operate from 6:30 AM to 9:40 PM on weekdays, and 7:10 AM to 9:40 PM on Saturdays and Sundays.

Please note that the Q53 during late evenings when Q21 is not running now makes all Local Stops Between Rockaway Park/Beach 116th Street and Cross Bay Blvd/164th Avenue.

c)2008 MTA.

Any comments or reactions?

This will be good as Woodhaven/Cross Bay Boulevard will be served by one bus, negating the former transfer.

I like it. It beats my idea of adding stops on the Q53 on 155 and 157 Avs

I agree. Personally i would have canned the Q-21 and just have three branches of the Q-11. The main 24-hour 'Q11" line would operate between 164th/Cross Bay(replacing the Liberty Ave only section) and QC Mall. With split service continue every 20-30 minutes or every hour between 10pm-last bus at around Midnight going to either Howard(Q11a) or Hamilton(Q11b) Beach.

Increased service on The Q41 would have served the Lindenwood area(replace Q21) where riders can transfer to the Q11 or Q53 at Liberty/Cross Bay.

I would have revised the Q53 to make all local stops between Rock Park/Beach 116th and 164th/Cross Bay then stopping only at Liberty/Rock Blvd, Jamaica Ave and Metro Ave before QC Mall.

IMO i still feel that the Q53 does not need to stop at Atlantic, or Myrtle though. And finally i would have overnight service on Q53 with 1-hour headways between appx. 130am-430am making all stops on Cross Bay/Woodhaven only between 11pm-6am.

Still the current Q11/21/53 overall is lightyears better than just 5-6 years ago when Green and Triboro Bus lines ran this coordior.

I'd have the Q41 run all night too, so customers in that Lindenwood area have bus service overnight

The Q41 Imo should cut zip zag and the zillion turns it makes in south ozone park as that would elimante a crucial 10 minute in travel time.

The map I got last week in the subway booth was from September.

reguarding the zig zag it is necessary because none of the streets it travels go directly into atlantic except 127st so it needs the zig zag because of all the one way and dead end streets in that part of ozone park the only streets that go through that are two way are lefferts which has the q10 and 111st which has the q37

The Q41 has no choice but to "zig zag" through lindenwood & s. ozone park... those are uni-directional streets around there....

The Q21 extension, after it's recent headway increase a couple weeks ago... I saw an extension of the route coming a mile away...

This to me is redundant.... if you take a look at most the ppl. disembarking the Q21, those aren't ppl. that are looking to travel along Woodhaven (This is why the Q53 gets the riders that it does)... more often than not, Lindenwood riders are looking to go no further than the A train station over there...

(this is) nothin more than an attempt to revive a route that was dying fast... all I can say @ this point is... let's see if it works out for the better.....

Easy solution: Swap the Q41 and Q112 at the western end...

- Cut the Q41 back to Liberty/Woodhaven;

- Send the Q112 through Lindenwood.

that could work because the 112 is a short route that is direct without many turns and goes from south rd to liberty to woodhaven

An excellent idea. Plus Lindenwood would still have a direct 1 seat ride to/from Downtown Jamaica.
However i still believe a first priority should be a direct 1-bus line between at least Cypress Hill(euclid ave)and Jamaica on Liberty though.

True. I was thinking a 1-seat bus from Cypress Hill/East NY-Jamaica via Liberty as back up to "A" line on Brooklyn-Queens border in case of 1)"G/O's or Service disruptions 2)None of the "A" line stations between Bway Jct. and Queens(except for Howard Beach/JFK)are ADA or Wheelchair accesible.

true but there is atlantic ave which ones pararllel to liberty about three blocks away from that part of liberty and the q24 i was thinking that a croostown bys was needed going from that part of the cityline to jamaica ave and park lane there are no crosstown buses except for the new 21 which runs on woodhaven

It will take some pressure off the Q53 and provide additional local service.
