Why can't the MTA just put up an electronic sign that is coupled to the setting of the switches that are 1000 feet east of the station? Very often, the train signage is incorrect, there is no platform announcement, the conductor's announcement is not made, cannot be heard, or is incorrect. The new "Christmas tree lights" on a very trains seem to be as incorrect as often as they are correct.
The pattern I hate is confused passengers almost exiting the train and blocking the door waiting for an announcement -- in collision with confused passengers almost entering the train and blocking the door waiting for an announcement -- in collision with the passengers exiting and entering who need to do so whether it is a local or an express.

Welcome aboard, patsw! Please feel free to introduce yourself at "Welcome New Members" and mezz thread.
It not only at Queensboro Plaza. From 5th Av to Queensboro Plaza is chaos.
Some (7)<7> conductors's announcement can't here well.
Also sometimes, you never know what (7) will do if there was game or something happened. Some (7) trains are loud announcement, some are soft which is hard to hear because people always talking in English, Spanish, etc.

The perfect solution to this problem would be to replace its current car fleet with the newer stock (2/4/5/6), but I've heard there were issues with using them on the 7 line.

Or rebulid the entire R-62's on the #7 line w/ LCD's similar to those used on the R-142's. Also install asap state of art lcd signs at Queensboro too.

The problem is acute at Queensboro Plaza since that is the last place to change between local and express before the switch.
Now if I recall correctly, at some point in the past, there was one indicator at Grand Central and Queensboro Plaza each which has the same dimensions at the indicator at Time Square that read "Next Train" above the platform reading "Exp" and "Local". I guess that the indicators were at some point disconnected and then later taken down.

During the A.M., is there similiar confusion about the (7) local/<7> express or is this handled differently from the P.M. between Times Square and Queensboro Plaza?

There's no confusion in the A.M. because the expresses head towards Manhattan and Main Street has screens that indicate whether the train is local or express. Either way, even if the train is a local and they want an express they can get off at Willets Point and cross the platform.

They will, in time. I'm also wondering why they haven't done that yet. Personally the only thing I don't like about the design is that they can be as reliable as the FINDS (some of them get stuck)and that blocks part of the rollsign (although people should know where they're going anyway).

That's exactly what should happen to the 7. The trains are about to be 25 yrs old, they can still get the LCD's and still look fly. The R62A's look GREAT on the 7, a little "touch-up" will make an already great subway car, incredible.

I think I might have figured it out, or at least somewhat of the time.
The sign on the front indicates whether its a (7) or <7>. The signs on the windows (passenger) have the opposite sign then the sign on the front, therefore its wrong.
This happened on Friday. I was on the 7 platform at GCT and a 7 rolled in with (7) on the front, and <7> on the passenger windows. I let this go, and I'm pretty sure it was a local, since the next one that came in had <7> on the front, and (7) on the windows which was the express train. I don't think they'd run two straight expresses especially since there was a late 7 local up the line. We caught up to the local I had let pass at 69th, and we caught the next local as it was pulling into 82nd/Jackson Heights. Normally, if we catch two locals on a run, its normally either right at Shea or between 111th & Shea.
